SSE, Inc. provided structural design services for a 40,000 sf single-story building for the US Department of Veteran Affairs. The Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Services & Prosthetics Facility is being built as part of a design/build contract. The building envelope included blast resistant design in compliance with the Physical Security Design Manual for VA Facilities, Life-Safety Protected. The building consists of a steel framed structure with sloped bar joist / special joist roof trusses and light-gauge truss over framing. The lateral system consisted of steel moment frames and truss systems to resist the hurricane force winds common to this region.
